A cute and quiet place located in downtown Santa Fe. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. We had the New Mexico roll, ednamme and yakisoba noodles. Was all fast and very yummy. I will defiantly make the trip downtown for this place.

We just stopped by on a whim and quickly became huge fans. We got very simple, unvarnished pieces, and they were fantastic. Fish is the right age and cut correctly (yes there is a wrong way to cut), in large flavorful pieces. The motto on the chalk board was "more sushi less rice" and they're not kidding. Will stop by again hopefully soon.

Average sushi place - sushi chef does not do Omakase, which is a little disappointing for me. Rolls are pretty generic with nothing special. The nigri and sashimi are delicious. I do suggest staying away from their signature roll - super dragon. It was not only huge (it's like a foot long sandwich), but also pretty nasty. I don't like ewwwnagi (unagi), my friend insisted ordering it, he had 1 and got really sick afterward.

It may be a stretch of mind to imagine fresh, savory seafood and let alone fresh, savory Japanese-style entrees in a landlocked Western state such as New Mexico. However, Izmi Sushi Bar in Santa Fe offers such a selection to merit a visit for locals and visitors alike! My girlfriend, Flor, and I started with a glass of unfiltered, sweet yet ravishing Nigori sake...For $5?! Afterwards, Flor ordered Alaskan maki rolls with tender mini-filets of salmon rolled while I ordered New Mexican maki rolls with crab, green chile, and a fun fusion of other ingredients. Both of our roll sets could have perhaps been larger in size but beyond this, no question about coming back here with other friends and those more adventurous and wanting a fresh sushi experience!

I have been here twice in the past few weeks and have really enjoyed the meal both times. The fish is super fresh, delicious, and when the server describes a fish to be melting in your mouth, he really means it! We ordered the seaweed salad, jalapeno popper type appetizer, tons of sashimi, a few rolls, and the kid had the ramen with chicken. Everything was spot on, and the service was attentive. I will be back again!

Last night was my third visit to Izmi at its new-ish location on Marcy Street. The interior is very pleasant (I hear it wasn't so pleasant in the old location, but it's VERY chic now). We were only the 3rd table when we arrived, but it was almost full by the time we left - pleasant atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. I have previously sat alone at the sushi bar for lunch (I enjoyed a friendly informative chat with the chef) and twice gone with my fiance for dinner. I have consistenly enjoyed the sushi, not only because the fish-to-rice ratio is ample (mostly fish! huzzah!), but also because it is incredibly fresh and flavorful. If you're used to some of the skimpy sushi in this town you will be AMAZED at the servings of fish you get at Izmi. Also, they use firm tofu in their miso, which I greatly prefer to the silken as a matter of personal preference, so that makes me happy. Last night They had a "special" salmon on hand - a cold water fish from New Zealand that was pleasantly fatty and juicy. You could upgrade to it in any salmon roll, but we got a 2-piece nigiri with it to try in it isolation and I loved it. The cuts we were served were ample, long slices on a dollup of rice, carefully sliced to better display the artful swirls of the fat lines that salmon is known for. We also got a tuna nigiri and three rolls - specialties "Ichiban" & "Crazy Train" and a spicy tuna (my fiance's favorite). I don't usually love spicy tuna because so many places grind the fish up with the spicy sauce and it becomes "raw tuna salad." I like big pieces of fish so I can appreciate the texture, and Izmi is one of the only places in town that does it that way, leaving the tuna intact, so thank you for that! The Crazy Train roll was awesome - tempura yellowtail, cucumber and smelt egg inside, spicy tuna & eel (unagi) on top, with a touch of sweet sauce - so very tasty - it was a more complex alternative to a caterpillar roll, which incidentally is one of my favorite rolls. I could've eaten the whole roll myself, but was gracious enough to let my fiance get his fair share. So tasty you didn't even need to dip in soy sauce. I liked the Ichiban more than my fiance did - shrimp tempura inside, raw tuna & yellowtail outside with black caviar on top. There was a little more caviar than it needed for the brine/crunch effect, but enough fell off on the way to my mouth anyway, it just made me feel wasteful to leave some caviar behind on the plate. Either way, it was very tasty. It did need the soy sauce dip more than the crazy train, which had more flavor. The presentation of the rolls was beautiful - the way the chef spaced the crazy train pieces out edge to edge required a fully 2-foot long plate just for that one roll. Made us feel gluttonous but in a good way - it was presented as a feast! I will say that the basic dinner salad was quite boring, but I suppose that is not surprising - they did have a kelp noodle salad special we could've tried instead and a spicy tuna salad on the permanent menu that probably would've been good too. When we eat sushi out, we don't skimp; we order what we want. The salad (we shared one), 2 miso soups, 2 orders of nigiri, 2 specialty rolls, 1 basic roll, and a 375 ml bottle of sake was still only $88 and I had some leftovers to bring for lunch today. Not bad at all pricewise, and now I'm off to re-live the magic!

Izmi has moved downtown to Marcy Street, across from the public library. The food is still of the same high quality as it was at the last location. Went here tonight and we ordered tons of stuff. Most noteable was the apple pie roll and the tempura shrimp roll covered in scallops (SIMPLY AMAZING!). The entire staff is attentive and professional, and over all, super friendly!

If I could choose two words to describe Izmi Sushi Bar, they would be... Shin Ramen. I've had enough packets of that fiery Korean ramen to know it when I taste it. Call me a worthless epicure, but my Asian spidey senses can see, taste and smell the red chili broth two rooms away. What's really terrible is that, when asked whether the "spicy chicken ramen" was "from a packet?" the waiter had the gall to laugh and scoff "Oh no, it definitely isn't Korean instant ramen." It's totally okay to slurp down some Shin at home, when each bowl sets you back $0.75. But when I'm out at a "fancy" sushi restaurant that has, as Alisson S. astutely put it, "prohibitively high" pricing, someone should at least do a better job of hiding the fact that I'm eating supermarket ramen. For $11. And for all I know, the chicken pieces floating around in the broth are from Tyson Torture Co. It's not too far-fetched of a conjecture, considering that the tea (that we were charged for) was TERRIBLE. With ALL CAPS. Stale Kirkland Signature green tea at a Japanese sushi bar? Have you guys no pride?! While the sushi itself was unmemorable (but fresh enough), the price tag was not. If you are on your company's dime-- and you hate your company-- Izmi is the place to dine. Bottom Line: Why don't you just burn your money instead?

My wife and I enjoyed our last dinner while visiting Santa Fe at Izmi Sushi Bar. We couldn't stomach another gigantic dinner of New Mexican cuisine, however delicious they may be. We picked Izmi due to its closeness to our hotel on the plaza. The restaurant's interior is quite nice- hip vibe going on. We sat at the sushi bar. Always sit at the bar. It's fun to watch the sushi chef work his craft. We were immediately impressed with chef/owner Brent Jung. He was meticulous and each dish not only looked tantalizing, but tasted even better. The overall service was very good. The sushi was excellent and prices were reasonable. Next time we visit Santa Fe we'll stop in for dinner for certain.

So super overpriced for a grocery store stripmall sushi dive. Awful interior that could have been easily ignored if the prices weren't so prohibitively high- as soon as i saw the menu with prices I started looking around, asking "Who the hell do they think they are???" and at lunch even! There was no sign of a bento box special to be seen- honestly- it is bizarre that they wouldn't offer a bento box at lunch time! We ended up ordering a la carte sushi and it was nothing special. It was nothing more than an appetizer for the price of 2 dinner entrees... I won't eat at Izmi again.

My wife and I are sushi virgins so we opted for other entrees. Her Teriyaki Salmon was wonderful and my Teriyaki was more than I could eat. The sushi on the next table looked very fresh and the server said it was flown in. We will return and maybe try some sushi. The waiter was very helpful and the attendant was very friendly and comical.

Since I don't know anyone yet 'cause I just moved here, I went by myself for an early dinner. I sat at the bar and had some great sushi -the Ikura was super fresh and I had the #4 roll (can't remember the name) that was out-of-this-world delicious. Brent, the sushi chef, was super-friendly, as were the rest of the servers. It had a comfortable neighborhood feel that I loved. I will definitely be back!

Great sushi - very fresh, and generous cuts. Miso soup (which was excellent), edamame, 8 pieces of sushi, and green tea ran $35, which is pretty much an average price for a good sushi place. Friendly, efficient service. I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in Santa Fe.

Not impressed...even after they moved downtown. The sushi is crumbly and entirely too large to even consider taking a full bite. At their old location, the fish tasted old and even though the service was much better at the new location, I was still not impressed. Believe me, we tried almost everything on their menu and I wasn't satisfied. Too bad, I was really looking forward to a sushi place close to home.

I had udon with Tempura shrimp and a delicious salad. Scallop roll and sushi very good. The udon soup was just like I remember in Tokyo! The service was good, but the server made a ten fold error on the bill. It was corrected, but irritated me after a lovely lunch. I would still go back!

Great place off the beaten path, and they are Allergy friendly and happily customized my sushi roll omitting a few things so I could enjoy my meal. Also they use vinyl not latex gloves when preparing the meal, a big plus for sushi lovers with latex allergies like me. Get your mind out of the gutter we are talking about food here.

I wanted hibachi and heard they had it here - was totally disappointed they will only allow parties of 3 or more. Very disappointed. Sat in the restaurant portion and had teh spicy tuna salad and some sushi. All of which was very good - gave them 3 stars because they limit who can and can not sit at the hibachi tables.

This is not a bogus review but exactly what happened when I mentioned the rice was bad. Terrible Sushi. The rice was crunchy and old. When I mentioned that to the chef he said "people in Santa Fe like crunchy rice." What an insult to a 35 year sushi expert. I left and never will go back. Go to SHOKO or the new Sushi Land East real Japaneese sushi bars. Not a Korean mess.

The ambiance is nice. The sushi chefs I back were cracking up and it was nice to hear such laughter!!! It actually livened up the place!! The food was delicious. The servers were on point and attentive. It's lacking one star simply because I prefer spicy tuna smashed up, there's was a whole slab of tuna. Albeit delicious.

I ordered the Yakisoba with added tofu as well as some sushi. The food was very good but the prices were quite high. The Yakisoba is $10 plus $2 for added tofu. Also, their dinner selection is small other than rolls. However, the staff was nice.

Service was excellent. Great job guys! Servers were very attentive but not to the point of being intrusive or interrupting the meal. Food really wasn't all that great. My yakisoba didn't taste much like the yakisoba I loved eating when I lived in Japan. The chicken I asked for in the yakisoba seemed like it was just piled on top of the vegetables piled on top of the noodles instead of it all being stir fried together in the sauce like it should have been.. speaking of which, if I'm paying that much for chicken, give me more than a tiny handful of pieces of chicken thigh pieces. The yakitori wasn't good at all. Not grilled. They deep fried the 2 tiny skewers and drizzled on a little sauce.. no flavor.. the plate had more sauce on it than the skewers did. Being deep fried, the chicken was dry as hell and the very tiny pieces of spring onion were fried crispy and very wilted. Also, very expensive for what you get. In Japan you can get 10 giant skewers of breast meat grilled for 1000 yen (about 10 dollars) dripping in sauce that the guy dipped the skewers into in front of you. Don't top the mango mochi in chocolate.. just don't. It doesn't work.. mango has a delicate flavor profile and the chocolate seemed bitter in contrast.

I went to visit Santa Fe and was craving sushi! This place was very disappointing! The very plain sushi was EXPENSIVE and did not have any flavor. I asked for spicy and I don't think they know what that means. There was no spice and even the wasabi had NO flavor. I give it one star for presentation. If you plan to come here don't expect flavor and make sure your wallet is full. On the other hand, the staff was friendly and the place is nice.

I never would have believed it. Far from the sea in landlocked Santa Fe is a fabulous sushi place where the fish is so good, I'd swear I was in Los Angeles or New York. The chefs are Korean but they have mastered the subtle nuances that one would find in the fussiest traditional Japanese run establishment. The unagi hand rolls are crisp with the perfect not too salty sweet sauce and creamy avocado and cucumber. A nice surprise amidst the BBQ and Southwest places that dot the artsy Santa Fe landscape.

We were excited to find a Japanese restaurant that was open at the time. Unfortunately the "Fresh" ramen appeared to be out of an instant noodle bag. Don't know for sure but that's what they looked and tasted like. The noodles were also all clumped together and starchy like they were dumped out of a cheap instant noodle pouch into a pot and not stirred, or drained or anything except for maybe when the flavor pouch was thrown in. The avocado rolls were ok, maybe the sushi is ok. But the ramen was among the worst noodles I've ever had.
